Panaji, May 16 — Goa Congress president Amit Patkar has urged Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar to expedite the decision on the disqualification petition he filed against eight Congress legislators who defected to the ruling BJP in September 2022.

In his letter, Patkar noted that the disqualification petition was initially filed on December 6, 2022. He expressed frustration over the recent dismissal of his disqualification petition against Digambar Kamat and Michael Lobo and emphasized that another petition involving all eight defecting MLAs remains pending.

Patkar is calling for the disqualification of Kamat, Lobo, Aleixo Sequeira, Sankalp Amonkar, Rodolfo Fernandes, Delilah Lobo, Rajesh Faldessai, and Kedar Naik, citing their violation of the 10th Schedule of the Constitution, which addresses anti-defection laws.

“If the speaker continues to delay deciding on the petition, I will explore all legal remedies,” Patkar warned, indicating his readiness to take further legal action to resolve the matter.
