Panaji: Goa TMC General Secretary Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik demanded the BJP-led government to allow emergency service vehicles to be allowed to use the new Zuari Bridge before December 29th in order to ease the sufferings of the common people.

Highlighting the plight of stranded Goenkars in long traffic jams, Goa TMC General Secretary Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik emphasized, ‘Yesterday’s massive traffic jam along the Zuari Bridge left scores of vehicles stuck for over 5 hours. Many ambulances with people requiring immediate medical assistance were left unattended.’ She further added, `Uncountable people have lost their lives due to delay in reaching GMC. As people are usually referred to GMC from South Goa District Hospital or other peripheral facilities in South Goa, such long traffic jams are deadly.’

Condemning Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s decision to allow citizens to revel on the new Zuari bridge, Naik asserted, ‘It is dreadful knowing that while the new Zuari Bridge is ready, the people were dying only because the BJP government wants it to be inaugurated at the hands of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. Knowing Gadkari, I don’t think even he would like people to die this way’ Adding on, she said, ‘Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Public Works Department Minister Nilesh Cabral should immediately ensure that the emergency vehicles are allowed to use the bridge. It should be open for emergency services like Ambulances, Fire, Emergency Services, and the Police department.’
