Panaji: On the occasion of World Health Day, Manipal Hospitals, Goa, has rolled out an initiative to create a healthy and sustainable society committed to achieving equitable well-being for senior citizens, in the present as well as in the future, without hurting the ecological balance in any way.
The program was spearheaded by Dr. Rakesh Deshmane – Consultant Cardiothoracic, Manipal Hospitals, Goa and Ms. Sharvari Gude – Senior Dietician, Manipal Hospitals, Goa at Sneh Mandir, a senior citizen club in Ponda, Goa. Participants in the session spoke on tips to keep the heart healthy, monitoring blood pressure at home, eating a healthy diet, quitting smoking, boosting immunity, troubles brought about by constipation & indigestion, and ways to keep the body hydrated, among others.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Rakesh Deshmane – Consultant Cardiothoracic, Manipal Hospitals, Goa, said, “We are delighted to host this awareness program. This program endeavoured to bridge the knowledge gap on heart health and other related issues commonly faced by senior citizens. The prevalence of cardiac problems among different age groups has been on the rise for many years now. This program can help them understand the diseases at an early stage and take steps to avoid complications in future.”
Ms. Sharvari Gude, Senior Dietician, Manipal Hospitals, Goa, said, “Due to negligence and lack of awareness among children, women and senior citizens about the importance of healthy diets in the fight against deadly diseases, people in these segments end up facing many avoidable health conditions. This health awareness program endeavours to help people in and around the city learn more about the importance of healthy diet. Besides, they are also made aware that best care and facilities are available right here.”
