Panaji: The Calangute Police have arrested two youths for their alleged involvement in a series of mobile phone thefts targeting tourists in the Calangute area. The accused have been identified as Basavaraja D.G. (24) and Kiran G. (21), both residents of Bhadravati taluka in Karnataka.
Acting on the instructions of Police Inspector Paresh G. Naik, Calangute Police intensified patrolling in the area to curb crimes against tourists. During the patrol, police personnel noticed the two suspects behaving suspiciously near Dolphin Circle, Calangute. When questioned, the duo failed to give a satisfactory explanation for their presence and gave evasive replies, prompting police to detain them for further verification at the police station.
During interrogation, police recovered multiple mobile phones from the accused. On sustained questioning, they reportedly admitted to committing mobile phone thefts at various locations across Goa, mainly targeting tourists. The recovered stolen property was seized under a panchanama, and both accused were arrested under Section 35 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The successful operation was carried out by a team from Calangute Police Station led by HC-4936 Vidhyanand Amonakar, along with PC-6644 Vijay Naik, PC-6118 Amir Garad, PC-7119 Ganpat Tiloji, and PC-7283 Raj Parab.
Further investigation is underway under the supervision of PI Paresh Naik, with overall supervision by SDPO Porvorim Shri Vishwesh Karpe and Superintendent of Police (North Goa) Shri Harish Madkaikar.
