Panaji: Calangute Police have arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with a gold chain snatching incident reported from Baga. The crime occurred on 11 December 2025, when a German national staying at a guest house in Baga complained that an unknown person forcibly entered his room and snatched a gold chain weighing around 20 grams, valued at approximately ₹2.40 lakh.
Following the complaint, Calangute Police registered Crime No. 169/2025 and launched an intensive investigation. Based on specific leads, police detained Naveen Madivalar (18), a resident of Belgaum (Belagavi), Karnataka, on suspicion. He was subsequently arrested under Section 304(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
During the course of the investigation, the police team travelled to Belagavi, Karnataka, where the stolen gold chain involved in the offence was successfully recovered.
The investigation was carried out by a team led by PSI Kiran Naik, with the assistance of HC Vidhyanand Amonkar, PC Vijay Naik, PC Amir Garad, PC Rajesh Kandolkar, PC Raj Parab, PC Ganpat Tiloji, PC Gaurish Karbotkar, PC Smital Bandekar and PC Sandesh Kumbhar.
The entire investigation was conducted under the supervision of PI Shri Paresh Naik of Calangute Police Station and under the guidance of SDPO Porvorim Shri Vishwesh Karpe and SP North District Shri Harishchandra Madkaikar.
