Children’s Day Special: DITE&C Empowering Goa’s Young Innovators Through Technology

As India celebrates Children’s Day, Goa stands out for nurturing a new generation of digitally empowered youth. The Department of Information Technology, Electronics and Communications (DITE&C) is driving several forward-looking initiatives that equip children and students to thrive in the evolving digital world.

Recognising that technology is no longer just a tool but a gateway to opportunity, DITE&C has implemented schemes that bridge access and skill gaps. Among them is the Free Laptop Distribution Scheme for meritorious students from SC/ST communities — an initiative aimed at promoting academic excellence and ensuring equitable access to digital learning.

To further strengthen Goa’s digital learning ecosystem, IT Knowledge Centres (ITKCs) have been established across talukas. These centres provide hands-on training in emerging domains such as coding, artificial intelligence (AI), and other frontier technologies, helping students become not just consumers but creators of technology.

Goa’s startup ecosystem — now home to over 700 startups — reflects this spirit of innovation. Many young entrepreneurs, even at the college level, are already developing creative tech-based solutions. To encourage this trend, DITE&C has launched the Campus Innovation Scheme under the Startup Policy 2025, offering financial support of up to ₹50,000 for student-led projects and promoting an entrepreneurial mindset within educational institutions.

In parallel, DITE&C is building the infrastructure for a tech-driven future. The Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at Tuem provides plug-and-play facilities for electronics, drones, IoT, and cleantech manufacturing, boosting local entrepreneurship and job creation.

Looking ahead, the Goa AI Mission 2027 aims to position the state as a hub for artificial intelligence. The mission includes the introduction of AI courses in schools and colleges, the establishment of a Goa AI Academy, and regular AI bootcamps, masterclasses, and hackathons to strengthen youth engagement with cutting-edge technologies.

By prioritising digital education, entrepreneurship, and innovation, DITE&C is laying the groundwork for a generation of Goan children ready to lead in a technology-driven world. On this Children’s Day, their initiatives reflect a clear message — the future belongs to those who can imagine, create, and innovate.
