New Delhi: Goa took centre stage in the national conversation on sustainable infrastructure as Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant outlined the state’s vision to become a leader in climate-resilient and environmentally responsible development during the National Conference on Goan Architecture & Sustainability held in New Delhi on Friday.
The conference was inaugurated by Union Tourism and Culture Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in the presence of Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant and Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade. Organised by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), the event brought together leading architects, urban planners, engineers, policymakers, and industry experts to discuss innovative approaches to sustainable urban development.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sawant highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi” (Development with Heritage), stressing the importance of balancing modern infrastructure with the preservation of Goa’s rich architectural and cultural heritage.
The Chief Minister said the state is committed to integrating traditional architectural practices with modern green technologies to create climate-responsive public infrastructure. He described Goa as a future “Living Laboratory” for sustainable architecture, where heritage conservation and technological innovation will work together to build resilient and environmentally responsible infrastructure.
“We are combining centuries-old architectural wisdom with cutting-edge green technology to create sustainable public infrastructure. Goa will demonstrate that tradition and innovation can coexist to build a resilient, eco-friendly, and self-reliant (Swayampurna) state,” Dr. Sawant said.
The conference focused on promoting sustainable design practices, preserving architectural heritage, and encouraging collaboration among experts to shape the future of climate-resilient urban development in Goa and across the country.
