CURCHOREM: A new platform aimed at bringing women together and addressing issues concerning their welfare, empowerment and independence, Sangini, an initiative of Arti Patkar with the support of Amit Patkar, will be formally launched on Tuesday, November 3, at 4 pm at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem.

The initiative seeks to provide women with a common platform to express their concerns, access guidance and support, explore opportunities and collectively raise their voices on issues affecting their lives. Its key focus areas will include women’s dignity, physical and mental wellbeing, financial independence, safety, skill development and social participation.

Speaking ahead of the launch, Arti Patkar said that Sangini was conceived to give a more structured and organised direction to her ongoing efforts towards social welfare and women’s empowerment. She said the platform would work towards ensuring that women are heard, supported and encouraged to take an active role in shaping programmes and initiatives that address their needs.

Emphasising the importance of prioritising women’s aspirations and wellbeing, Patkar pointed out that many women often put their personal health, ambitions and dreams on hold while fulfilling family and social responsibilities. Through Sangini, she aims to encourage women to recognise their own worth, prioritise their needs and pursue their aspirations without hesitation.

Guided by the Konkani message “Bayle Khatir, Bayle Vangda” and the commitment “Where every woman is heard, supported and empowered,” Sangini intends to build an inclusive environment where women can interact freely, share experiences and seek assistance without hesitation.

The platform will also work towards creating awareness about women’s rights, dignity and safety, while addressing concerns relating to injustice and discrimination. It aims to encourage greater participation of women in discussions and decisions that directly impact their lives, while respecting individual privacy and personal choices.

Women’s healthcare and mental wellbeing will be among the major priorities of the initiative. Planned activities include health awareness programmes, medical camps and guidance sessions involving qualified professionals to help women better understand and address their health-related concerns.

Another important objective will be to promote skill development and financial independence. Sangini plans to organise activities that will equip women with practical skills, improve their digital awareness and help them explore employment opportunities and small business ventures. Special attention will also be given to homemakers and women looking to restart their professional journeys after dedicating years to family responsibilities.

The initiative will further focus on safety awareness, self-defence activities and connecting women with appropriate support services whenever required. It also plans to assist women in understanding various government schemes, eligibility criteria and application procedures so that they can access the benefits and assistance available to them.

Apart from welfare and empowerment programmes, Sangini will encourage cultural participation, creativity and social interaction by providing opportunities for women to showcase their talents, celebrate local traditions and learn from one another.

The launch event will also mark the beginning of Sangini’s membership drive. Women attending the programme will get an opportunity to interact with prominent women from Goa, while women achievers will be felicitated in recognition of their contributions and accomplishments.

The organisers will also unveil the upcoming activity calendar and invite suggestions from participants on the issues and programmes they would like Sangini to take up in the coming months. The objective is to ensure that women themselves play an active role in deciding the platform’s priorities and future direction.

Acknowledging the support extended by Amit Patkar, Arti Patkar said that Sangini would be focused on sustained engagement and practical initiatives rather than limiting its activities to the launch event. She stressed that the platform’s long-term objective would be to stand alongside women, help them access opportunities and create an environment where they can confidently pursue their goals and make their own choices.

Women from across Goa have been invited to attend the launch programme at Ravindra Bhavan, Curchorem, and become part of the initiative.
