Margao – Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik have questioned the feasibility and viability of the proposed Hydraulic Parking Project at Margao. In a letter addressed to the Member Secretary of the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), Youth Leader Prabhav Naik stated, “Hydraulic systems require regular servicing, trained manpower, and are highly prone to rusting in Goa’s humid coastal climate. Without proper planning, this project risks becoming another non-functional ‘white elephant’ in the heart of our city.”
He said the Margao Municipal Council already struggles to maintain even its existing fleet of trucks and basic infrastructure. “If such a body cannot manage routine assets, how will it sustain a complex and high-maintenance system like hydraulic parking?” asked Prabhav Naik, highlighting concerns of wasteful expenditure.
Prabhav Naik said, “We have demanded clarity from GSUDA on whether any feasibility or technical study has been conducted to assess the suitability of hydraulic parking in Goa’s conditions. People deserve to know how many such projects have been executed elsewhere in Goa and whether they are functional today.”
He further stated that the financial and operational model must also be made public. “Citizens must know who will bear responsibility for maintenance and manpower deployment, and whether consultants appointed for this project have proven experience in executing similar projects in coastal regions,” stressed Prabhav Naik.
Prabhav Naik also pointed out, “Just a few days ago, a presentation was given on the so-called Master Plan – 2041 for Margao, and the Hon’ble Chief Minister promised Smart City development through central funds. Is this hydraulic parking project in sync with that larger vision, or is it just another piecemeal idea pushed without foresight?”
He concluded by underlining the need for transparency and accountability in urban development. “Madganvcho Awaaz is committed to ensuring that public funds are spent judiciously and only on projects that genuinely serve the needs of Margao. We will continue to raise our voice against wasteful ventures and push for well-planned, sustainable solutions,” said Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
