Panaji: The Directorate of Tribal Welfare, Government of Goa, has received the prestigious SKOCH Award for the effective implementation of the Matrutva Yojana, a scheme that provides infertility treatment support to Scheduled Tribe couples facing infertility issues. Director Nilesh Dhaigodkar and Managing Director of Goa State Scheduled Tribe Finance and Development Corporation Pritidas Gaonkar received the award at India Habitat Centre, New Delhi on March 28.

Under the scheme, eligible ST couples are provided free infertility treatment at seven empanelled private hospitals across Goa. The scheme has benefited over 350 couples so far, resulting in 60 women delivering 72 babies, including one set of triplets and ten pairs of twins.

Tribal Welfare Minister Dr. Ramesh Tawadkar congratulated the department and said the scheme was designed based on ground realities to support tribal families and will continue to work on more welfare schemes based on Antyodaya principles.
