Panaji: The State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Guruprasad Pawaskar, emphasised the importance of changing the attitude toward PwDs to ensure an accessible environment.

He was speaking at the recently held awareness programme on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 for staff of the High Court of Bombay at Goa organised by the Goa State Legal Services Authority in association with the Office of Goa State Commission for PwDs.

Also present were Advocate General for the state of Goa Adv. Devidas Pangam,

To address this issue of lack of awareness of equal human rights of persons with disabilities, the commission has been conducting awareness programmes for various stakeholders for the last six months”.

Advocate General for the state of Goa Adv. Devidas Pangam said, “PwDs have been guaranteed equality, opportunity, and life with dignity and respect under the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPWD) Act, 2016”.

Meanwhile, Anuradha Joshi, Ex-State Commissioner for PwDs gave a detailed overview of the Right to Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016 and the 21 types of disabilities it covers for the knowledge of all attendees.
