Panaji, October 26:
In a shocking incident early Sunday morning, a violent clash broke out right at the entrance of the Panaji Police Station between two rival groups, leading to multiple arrests and injuries.
According to a complaint lodged by Head Constable Satish Maje, attached to Panaji Police Station, the altercation occurred around 6:15 a.m. on October 26, 2025. The scuffle involved seven individuals divided into two groups — one comprising Devu Kawas (52), Jyoti Kawas (48), Roshni Kawas (30), and Sohil Kawas (48), all residents of Ramnagar, Alto Betim, and the other including Imran Kaburgi (23), Yakub Wallikar (38), and Mubarak Bhandari (35), residents of Chimbel and Bambolim.
Police stated that both groups began abusing and assaulting each other with fists and kicks at the main entrance of the police station — a public place — despite repeated attempts by officers to intervene. During the brawl, Devu Kawas allegedly used an iron knuckle duster to attack Yakub Wallikar, while one of the accused reportedly used pepper spray.
As a result, several individuals sustained injuries, with Yakub Wallikar suffering fractures to his left leg and left hand.
Following the incident, police registered an offence under Sections 194(2), 115(2), 117(2), 118(2), and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023. All seven accused have been arrested and are currently in police custody.
Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the altercation and the sequence of events leading up to the assault.
