Panaji:
Renowned Konkani writer Hema Naik lauded the strong social awareness and contemporary relevance found in young poet Pruthvi Naik’s debut poetry collection Thode Bold Thoden Old, describing it as a reflection of today’s changing society and youthful courage.
She was speaking at the book’s release function held at the Government Arts, Science and Commerce College, Khandola. The poetry collection, published under the ‘Payalo Chanvar’ scheme of the Goa Konkani Academy and brought out by Sath Prakashan, explores themes of identity, social change, and emotional expression through a modern Konkani lens.
The event was graced by Director of the Directorate of Education Bhushan Sawaikar, Vice-President of the Goa Konkani Academy Ramesh Ghadi, Principal Dr. Purnakala Samant, and the poet’s parents Chanda and Chandrakant Naik.
Highlighting the courage of today’s youth, Hema Naik remarked, “In our times, we were not allowed to express our thoughts so freely. The openness with which the younger generation articulates its ideas today is truly commendable.”
In his address, Ramesh Ghadi noted that Thode Bold Thoden Old demonstrates remarkable maturity and insight for such a young poet. He also stressed the need to expand the Payalo Chanvar initiative to reach talented writers in Goa’s rural areas, ensuring that young voices across the state find recognition and support.
Dr. Purva Vasta, Assistant Professor in the Department of Marathi at Goa University, presented a critical appreciation of the book, highlighting its innovative use of language, distinctive themes, and creative depth.
A special artwork by the book’s illustrator Samir Naik was unveiled during the programme, adding an artistic dimension to the event.
Principal Dr. Purnakala Samant delivered the welcome address, Vice-Principal Dr. Dilacta D’Costa proposed the vote of thanks, and Sneha Naik efficiently compered the function.
The event celebrated not only the literary promise of Pruthvi Naik but also the growing vibrancy of Konkani poetry among Goa’s younger generation.
