Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Amit Patkar on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led government, accusing it of hypocrisy after its acceptance of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s long-standing demand for an 18% cap on GST.
Patkar said that Rahul Gandhi’s foresight on GST had been vindicated, while the BJP had “mocked, ridiculed, and dismissed” him back in 2016. “For nine long years, the people of India have suffered under the crushing burden of BJP’s arrogance and flawed GST regime. Now, after looting the common man and damaging India’s economy, the BJP has quietly accepted the same proposal it once opposed. This is nothing but hypocrisy of the highest order,” Patkar said.
He added that the government’s reversal was not a genuine reform but “an admission of guilt.” According to him, the BJP’s policies had cost every household, small trader, and entrepreneur across the country for nearly a decade. “Indians have paid the price of BJP’s arrogance. Rahul Gandhi’s vision was correct all along,” he stressed.
The GPCC President further underlined that the Congress has always championed a fair and people-centric GST framework. “Better sense has finally prevailed, but it is too little, too late. The nation will not forget how BJP played politics with the economy and people’s livelihoods,” he said.
Patkar reaffirmed that the Congress will continue to fight for policies that reduce the burden on the common man and ensure that India’s economy works for all sections of society, not just a privileged few.
