Panaji, 7th May 2025 — The Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited (IPSCDL) has successfully completed the final layer of Bituminous Concrete (BC) surfacing in Central Panaji, marking a key milestone under the ongoing Smart City Mission. The extensive road infrastructure project, covering a total stretch of 6,850 meters, was executed in three well-planned phases over the past three months, ensuring minimal disruption to commuters.
Prior to the BC surfacing, the Dense Bituminous Macadam (DBM) layer was laid and stabilized, with all necessary rectifications addressed. Remarkably, the entire operation was carried out without major road closures, a testament to IPSCDL’s coordinated planning and efficient execution.
Project Breakdown:
Phase 1 (735 meters):
- MG Road (St. Inez Junction to Caculo Island – 185m)
- MG Road (Caculo Island to Don Bosco School – 275m)
- SV Road (Geeta Bakery to DB Road Junction – 275m)
Phase 2 (1,024 meters):
- MG Road (Don Bosco to UCO Bank – 354m)
- TB Cunha Road (Café Bhonsle to DB Road Junction – 320m)
- 18 June Road (NGPDA Office to Caculo Island – 140m)
- Cunha Rivera Road (Vinanti to DB Road Junction – 40m)
- MG Road (Liberty to Vinanti Restaurant – 170m)
Phase 3 (1,415 meters):
- MG Road (UCO Bank to Don Bosco School – 380m)
- Market to DB Road – 200m
- Geeta Bakery to INOX – 534m
- Tom Liquor Shop to DB Road – 200m
- Two internal lanes – 100m
What’s Next:
The road painting and traffic signage phase is already underway and will continue till May 31, 2025. This will be followed by a focused landscaping and tree plantation drive scheduled for June 1–30, aimed at improving urban greenery and ecological balance. IPSCDL is employing climate-resilient planting techniques to ensure higher tree survival rates and long-term benefits.
Progress Beyond the Core:
Work on St. Inez Road is also progressing steadily, with 3,000 meters of concrete roadwork nearing completion. Importantly, the key sewerage line from Taad Maad to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) has been successfully connected, clearing the path for the final surface layer to be laid.
Improved Connectivity near Café Bhonsle Square:
To further enhance traffic flow in the city center, several internal roads near Café Bhonsle Square have also been upgraded and reopened:
- Antao De Noronha Road – 70 meters
- Road adjacent to Chai Corner – 30 meters
- Adjoining link to TB Cunha Road – 60 meters
