Margao: Defector Margao MLA turned PWD Minister Digambar Kamat reportedly holds GSIDC meetings at 3 a.m., while RTI replies on the controversial two-storeyed Margao Garden project expose total confusion and contradictions, stated Madganvcho Awaaz & Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Referring to RTI replies received from the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC), Prabhav Naik pointed out several ambiguities and contradictions, alleging that facts and figures are being deliberately concealed from the public.
Naik referred to minutes of a meeting held on 27th March 2026 at 3:30 a.m., where Digambar Kamat reportedly directed GSIDC officials to remove the cafeteria portion from the first floor of Block 1, retaining only toilets and a sit-out area on the upper floor.
In another meeting, whose minutes were also obtained under RTI, Digambar Kamat reportedly referred to a review meeting held on 17th April 2026 and decided to delete the washroom proposed on the ground floor of the Ganesh Mandap while retaining the storeroom, stated Naik.
Prabhav Naik further pointed out that GSIDC meeting minutes dated 21st April 2026 clearly mention that only a single bidder had quoted for the work. However, in the main RTI reply issued on the very same date, GSIDC stated that “no information is available to furnish” regarding the tender process. “This is a clear attempt to hide something from the people,” Naik charged.
He demanded complete transparency and said citizens must be taken into confidence while preserving the iconic and heritage character of the Margao Garden without further concretisation. He warned that Madganvcho Awaaz, along with Madganvkars, will strongly protest any attempt to impose a two-storeyed structure on the garden.
Naik also pointed out that one of the meeting minutes mentions urgency to complete the construction before Ganesh Chaturthi. “Madganvcho Awaaz is even willing to sponsor a waterproof pandal for the Margao Municipal Workers Union if required, but we will not allow haphazard demolition and concretisation of the garden in the name of urgency,” he stated.
