As road crash sees an upward trend, police increase enforcement

Panaji: Bicholim taluka has booked the highest traffic violation in the last 10 days as Traffic Police have launched a drive in the wake of rising accidents in the State.

As per the details shared by North Goa District Police, a total of 3522 cases under the Motor Vehicle Act have been booked in the last 10 days.

“Police have undertaken special drives to crack down on traffic violators on the backdrop of rising accidents in the state. . Let’s all do our part to make our roads safer by obeying traffic rules and regulations,” SP North Goa Nidhin Valsan said.

Maximum 449 traffic violations were booked under Bicholim police station followed by Colvale with 438 violations. Surprisingly, least, that is, 167 violations have been reported on the busy Porvorim roads.

Details also show that tourist dominated Anjuna recorded 265 cases, Mapusa 358 cases, Mopa 248 cases, another tourist belt Pernem and Calangute have seen 175 and 248 cases of violations respectively, Panaji 240, Old Goa 181, Agacaim 196, Saligao 338 and Valpoi 229 cases.

Over 400 accidents from January 2023 till date have rocked the State. These accidents claimed around 50 deaths and dozens of persons are injured. Several government properties and vehicles are too damaged.

On Monday, a team of traffic police led by SDPO Ponda visited Five accident prone spots as per the data provided from i-RAD for the year 2022. DGP Jaspal Singh in his tweet said that The team would suggest short term and long measures to concerned authorities in addition to strict enforcement by local Police and Traffic calming measures.
