CM Dr. Pramod Sawant Unveils Key Environmental Initiatives on World Environment Day 2025; Calls for United Action Against Plastic Pollution

Panaji, June 5 – Marking World Environment Day 2025, Goa’s Hon’ble Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant addressed a distinguished gathering at Raj Bhavan under the global UNEP theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.” Present at the event were Rajya Sabha MP Shri Sadanand Shet Tanavade, Chief Secretary, and eminent guests including Padma Shri awardees Dr. Prakash and Mandakini Amte.

Reaffirming Goa’s commitment to environmental protection, the Chief Minister launched several crucial documents and digital platforms, including the GSPCB Annual Report, Khazan Land Management Plan, Mangrove Management Plan, and the National Workshop Report on Coastal Erosion Studies. He also unveiled the GCZMA and DOECC portals, aimed at enhancing transparency and governance in ecological management.

Highlighting Goa’s environmental progress, Dr. Sawant noted that the state is ranked as the third lowest in plastic production and usage nationwide. He emphasized Goa’s strides in converting waste to wealth through modern STP and WTP facilities, and reiterated the government’s vision of achieving a Zero Waste Goa.

The Chief Minister also spotlighted initiatives focused on Khazan and Mangrove ecosystem revival, eco-friendly Ganesh celebrations, and Agro-Environmental Policies, reflecting a comprehensive and sustainable development approach.

Aligning Goa’s efforts with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and LiFE mission, Dr. Sawant urged citizens to say no to single-use plastic and adopt a sustainable, eco-conscious lifestyle for a cleaner and greener Goa.
