Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday said the ongoing Assembly session would be “spicy,” expressing anguish that the present government lacks shame and self-respect despite the death of 25 innocent people due to alleged irregularities. He said it was unfortunate that the government does not have the courage to hold a debate on the issue in the House.
Alemao said a wrong message is being spread across the country that Goa has become a crime destination where “everything is allowed,” remarking that the phrase “Goa mein sab chalta hai, sab bikta hai” is being associated with the state. He said it was shameful that the government was speaking about Sarvodaya and Antodaya while failing to take responsibility for the loss of 25 lives.
“As the Opposition, we have raised our questions in the session and will speak in the august House. It is the government’s responsibility to hold a debate on such serious issues,” Alemao said, adding that corruption in the state is being highlighted not only by the Opposition but also by some ruling MLAs.
Criticising the BJP-led government, he said while the Centre speaks of ‘na khaunga, na khane dunga’ under the so-called double-engine government, the reality in Goa reflects rampant corruption, mocking the slogan as “hum bhi khate hain, aap bhi khao.”
Alemao further said he hopes the Governor of Goa will address these concerns in his speech to the House, noting that the Opposition has already conveyed the issues through a memorandum and meetings. “We are a united Opposition and will corner the government on the irregularities in Goa,” he asserted.
He said he fully supports the call given by former Chief Justice of India Ferdino Rebello, “Enough is Enough,” and demanded that the “sale of Goa” be stopped.
