Panaji: A delegation of the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress, led by its President Archit Naik, met the Director General of Police (DGP), Goa, to express serious concern over the increasing drug menace in the state, especially in the hinterland areas. The delegation submitted a memorandum highlighting the alarming spread of drugs and its impact on Goan youth.

The Youth Congress urged the DGP to take strict and time-bound action against those involved in drug trafficking and peddling, and demanded a zero-tolerance approach towards drugs in Goa. They warned that substance abuse is destroying the future of young people and requires urgent intervention from law enforcement agencies.

The memorandum also pointed out a rise in incidents of drug abuse on educational campuses, calling upon the police to take cognisance of the issue and initiate firm measures to curb the menace at the institutional level.

During the meeting, the delegation further demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the BITS Pilani death case, stressing that justice must be ensured and the truth brought to light.

The Youth Congress leaders emphasised that all investigations should be conducted independently, without any pressure or interference, to uphold public trust in the police system.

Addressing the media after the meeting, Archit Naik said the Goa Pradesh Youth Congress will continue to raise its voice until accountability is fixed and concrete steps are taken to make Goa drug-free.
