Panaji: In the aftermath of heavy rains, a section of the Margao Health Centre collapsed, resulting in damage to a bike. Fortunately, no casualties have been reported. In response to the incident, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai expressed his concerns regarding the neglect of heritage structures in Goa.
MLA Vijai Sardesai questioned the government’s commitment to preserving Goa’s heritage, stating, “How long before Margao falls? It appears that the Government of Goa has taken the Chief Minister’s vow to erase Goa’s Portuguese symbols seriously, as evidenced by its continued apathy and neglect of our heritage structures. Will Hospicio be the next victim?”
He further emphasized the need for an audit of such structures to prevent their deterioration, urging immediate restoration of the Margao Health Centre and other cultural assets. MLA Sardesai criticized the government’s allocation of resources, suggesting that the same efforts and funds used for international events like the G20 meets should be directed towards preserving Goan heritage.
He questioned whether the government’s focus was solely on impressing outsiders while allowing the neglect and demise of Goemkars’ heritage. MLA Vijai Sardesai called for urgent action to save these invaluable cultural assets and restore them to their former glory.
