Panaji: A 48-year-old man was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting an underage girl, about 10 months back. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi, the incident took place in March 2023 and was brought to light only recently when the victim confided in her school counsellor reason she wants to be kept in the school boarding.
The accused, identified as Deepak Redkar, 48, is a resident of Bardez. The victim’s mother has alleged that Redkar sexually assaulted her 16-year-old daughter during the girl’s visit to his residence. The police have registered a case under sections 376 (rape) IPC, Sec 8(2) of the Goa Children’s Act, and Sec 4, 6, 8, 12 of the POCSO Act.
