Despite the Goa Government declaring three days of State mourning as a mark of respect to Former Chief Minister and senior leader Shri Ravi Naik, the Directorate of Art & Culture, Government of Goa, has gone ahead with organising a cultural programme in collaboration with Vakratund Sports and Cultural Club, Savordem, and in association with Swayampurna Goa.
This act is highly insensitive and disrespectful towards the departed leader and his grieving family. When the Government itself has officially announced mourning, holding entertainment or cultural events during this solemn period amounts to an insult to the memory of Shri Ravi Naik and to every Goan who holds him in high esteem.
It is shocking that the Directorate of Art & Culture, which functions directly under the supervision of the State Government, has chosen to disregard the official mourning declaration and proceed with the event. This not only reflects poor coordination and lack of sensitivity within the Government but also exposes the disrespectful attitude of those responsible.
The Congress Party strongly condemns this shameful act and demands that the Government immediately cancel or postpone the said programme as a mark of respect to the departed leader. The insensitive behaviour of the Art & Culture Department has deeply hurt the sentiments of the people of Goa, especially the admirers and well-wishers of Late Shri Ravi Naik.
