Margao – I welcome the Assurance given by the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant in the Goa Legislative Assembly to visit Cuncolim Industrial Estate to find a permanent solution to the Air and Water Pollution as well as to take stock of the Illegalities and Encroachments by various Industrial Units in Cuncolim, stated Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao.
Replying to the Motion of Thanks to the Address of the Governor, Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant also assured Cuncolim MLA that necessary instructions have already been given to the concerned authorities in view of setting up of common Effluent Treatment Plants in Cuncolim Industrial Estate.
The Hazardous Waste lying in the Cuncolim Industrial Estate will also be shifted in next few days. Necessary Funds will be provided to Goa State Pollution Control Board, informed Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant to Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao in the Assembly.
Earlier Leader of Opposition during discussion on Motion of Thanks to Governor’s Address had vociferously raised the issue of Pollution and Illegalities in Cuncolim Industrial Estate and had also demanded a firm Assurance from the Chief Minister. Government is not acting despite repeated Representations, Complaints and raising the issue in the Assembly. If Government fails to act now, serious Law & Order situation will arise in Cuncolim, Yuri Alemao told the Chief Minister.
It may be recalled that Government had earlier announced allocation of 5 crores for shifting of Hazardous Waste. Collector South Goa had issued a Demolition Notice against the Illegal Shed constructed in Cuncolim Industrial Estate. However no action happened on the ground.
The Locals had taken a Candle Light March and also submitted a Memorandum to the Chief Minister and others demanding immediate action to stop the Pollution in Cuncolim.
