Panaji: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) Media Department Chairman Amarnath Panjikar has hit out sharply at BJP State President Damu Naik, calling his remarks blaming the Congress government of six decades ago for present-day crimes in Goa “laughable and pathetic.”
Panjikar said it was shocking to see the BJP’s state leadership resort to absurd excuses to hide its “complete collapse of law and order.” He pointed out that the BJP has been in power for over 12 years, with Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant himself handling the Home Department, yet the government has failed to curb rising criminal incidents across the state.
“For over a decade, the BJP has controlled every department, including Home, but instead of taking responsibility, it’s still pointing fingers at the Congress. This is nothing but a desperate attempt to fool Goans,” said Panjikar.
He alleged that under BJP rule, murders, drug crimes, assaults, extortion, and shootouts have seen a sharp rise, reflecting the government’s inability to maintain peace and public safety. “Every week there’s a new violent episode, and rather than ensuring accountability, BJP leaders keep giving laughable excuses that insult Goans’ intelligence,” he said.
Panjikar added that blaming the Congress for today’s crimes, after more than a decade of BJP governance, only shows how insecure and desperate the ruling party has become. “If the BJP cannot control Goa’s law and order even after 12 years in power, they should apologize to the people and step down,” he demanded.
He concluded by saying that Goans have seen through the BJP’s empty promises and diversion tactics. “The law and order crisis in Goa is not rooted in history — it is a direct outcome of the BJP’s corruption, misgovernance, and arrogance of power,” Panjikar asserted.
