Porvorim Police have cracked down on an illegal cricket betting operation, arresting three individuals during a late-night raid at a rented bungalow in Pilerne.
Police Inspector Rahul Parab stated that on February 20, 2025, credible information was received about betting activities on the Champions Trophy match between India and Bangladesh. Acting swiftly, a police team raided the premises and apprehended three individuals: Maksud Modan (28) from Botad, Gujarat; Aasifbhai Jiyaudeenbhai (25) from Botad, Gujarat; and Rizvan Bhash (20) from Rajkot, Gujarat.
During the raid, authorities seized betting-related items, including four mobile phones, a laptop, and routers, with a total estimated value of ₹1.10 lakh.
An FIR has been registered under Sections 3 and 4 of the Goa, Daman, and Diu Public Gambling Act. The operation was carried out by a team comprising PI Rahul Parab, PSI Sitaram Malik, PSI Arun Shirodkar, and constables Mahadev Naik, Akash Naik, Nitesh Gawde, and Siddhesh Naik.
Further investigations are underway under the supervision of SDPO Porvorim Vishwesh Karpe and SP North Akshat Kaushal, IPS.
