PANAJI: Chairman of Goa Rehabilitation Board and Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai urged citizens to maintain cleanliness in the villages.
He was speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the New Shopping Complex near the Village Panchayat of Sao Matias, Malar on Thursday.
The legislator also inaugurated a waste collection truck.
Those present were Sarpanch Anuradha Voivoikar, Panch member Marina Vaz and other dignitaries.
Faldessai said that the complex will be a boon for the residents of Divar.
“Whenever something new comes in a village, it creates a positive feeling. There is a huge need for a shopping complex. We have been supporting the panchayat in all its endeavours. We have laid the foundation stone today. The project will be built at a cost of Rs 39 lakhs and will be completed by May. The shopping complex will be a boon for the residents of Divar island for all their requirements,” he said.
He also called for maintaining cleanliness.
“We have also inaugurated a garbage van for collection of dry and wet garbage. I request everyone, please don’t throw litter outside. Keep it at your homes, the panchayat will collect it. With a world-class event like the Exposition under way, we are proud to say that cleanliness has been top notch so much so that you will not find any litter,” he said.
The MLA said that all pending works will be completed soon.
“I want to assure everyone that temple work at Karmali will be completed soon. Also, the St. Aloysious School work will also be completed. Let us strive to make Divar island, which is a picturesque village, a better place. When everyone unites, all works are possible. I urge everyone’s support so that we can achieve better things,” he said.
