Chicalim, Goa – January 26, 2024: Village Panchayat Chicalim launched ‘WOOW Heroes and WOOW App’ in collaboration with Yimby on 26th January 2024 at Joggers Park Hall, Chicalim, Goa, at the hands of Hon’ble Minister of Transport, Shri. Mauvin Godinho. The primary aim of this initiative was to carry out safe waste management practices ensuring responsible waste disposal and to introduce Goa’s 1st decentralized sustainable (village panchayat level) waste to wealth plant in Chicalim Village.
The launch of Yimby’s WOOW (Wealth out of Waste) App and WOOW Heroes (Safai Karamcharis), was complemented by awareness leaflets to be distributed to every household. This initiative aims to carry out safe waste management practices ensuring responsible waste disposal for sustainable living. Features such as segregated door-to-door collection, implementation of SWM rules & bulk waste generators rules 2016, a dedicated RRR (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) center for charitable donations, and a solid waste & bulk waste drop-off facility is also made accessible to the Chicalim village. Other amenities include e-waste collection drives, zone collection & supervision by dedicated supervisors, and educational trips to the WOOW plant for a deeper understanding of Waste Management. Additionally, there will be a 50% discounted sewage tanker service and an opportunity to sell recyclable/plastic waste at a minimum of 4/- per kg.
At the event, Minister of Transport, Shri. Mauvin Godinho said, “I am honored to inaugurate this event. The event witnessed a substantial turnout, with participation from various segments of the community, including Safai Karamcharis, staff from Village Panchayat Dabolim Constituency, Joggers Park staff, and members of women welfare groups.
The launch took place at a health checkup camp held at Chicalim which featured a range of services, including free eye checkups and general health assessments conducted by the medical team from Manipal Hospital. Additionally, the camp offered preventive breast screening for women, a service facilitated by the Yuvraj Singh Foundation.
