Viresh Borkar Issues Legal Notice to Ajay Kholkar, Seeks ₹6 Crore in Defamation Damages
St. Andre MLA and Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) leader Viresh Borkar has initiated legal action against Ajay Kholkar over alleged defamatory statements, accusations of financial impropriety and derogatory remarks made against him through media and social media platforms.
In a legal notice dated November 4, 2026, Borkar has objected to allegations that he had allegedly received ₹3 crore from another political party, terming the claims false, baseless, reckless and defamatory. The notice also takes objection to the alleged use of insulting and abusive language against the MLA, stating that such remarks were intended to tarnish his reputation, credibility and standing as an elected public representative.
Borkar has given Kholkar a three-day ultimatum from the receipt of the notice to issue an unconditional, unequivocal and public written apology and refrain from making any further defamatory statements or allegations against him.
The notice warns that failure to comply with the demands could lead to both criminal and civil proceedings. It seeks criminal defamation proceedings with a maximum punishment of up to two years’ imprisonment, along with ₹6 crore in compensation for the alleged damage to Borkar’s reputation, goodwill, dignity and public standing. It also seeks recovery of applicable interest, litigation expenses and other costs as permissible under law.
The notice further states that Borkar may initiate appropriate legal proceedings without issuing any further notice if Kholkar fails to comply within the stipulated three-day period. Borkar maintained that while political criticism is an integral part of democracy, defamatory allegations and personal attacks cannot be justified in its name.
