Vedanta Sesa Goa’s flagship initiative, Sesa Technical School (STS), in partnership with Goa Medical College, organized a blood donation camp at its Sanquelim premises. The event, organized as part of the ‘YouTheChange, YouThePower’ initiative, witnessed participation from students & faculty with ~ 100 units of the ‘gift of life’ being donated on the occasion.
STS students have previously also been involved in blood donation activities and so far over the last two to three years have donated over 300 units cumulatively. In India, professional blood donation is banned as an activity & as per the National AIDS Control Organisation, India needs about 12 million units of blood each year. Seen in this context, blood donation drives form a significant part of the effort to create requisite levels of blood supply with the blood banks at the state & local levels. The STS & Vedanta Sesa Goa organises regular blood donation drives under its ‘Employee Volunteer’ programs & has donated over ~1000 units of blood across its locations since Oct 24.
Speaking on the occasion, Leena Verenkar – CSR, Vedanta Sesa Goa said:
“At Vedanta Sesa Goa, we believe in fostering a culture of care and responsibility towards society. Driven by Vedanta’s core philosophy of ‘giving back’ meaningfully, we contribute to community well-being through various means, and chief amongst them is through periodic blood donation drives. Our ‘volunteer’ initiatives are aimed at striking meaningful & lasting bonds with the community and as part of the same we have been regularly hosting blood donation camps. STS students, the youth of Goa, are fully ingrained in this philosophy & are inspired to contribute to societal well-being in their own way. t.”
Echoing this sentiment, Gajendra Alarnicar, Principal, Sesa Technical School stated:
“It is heartening to see our students, faculty, and staff come together for a noble cause. At STS, we strive to instil a sense of social responsibility among our students, and this Blood Donation Drive is a testament to their dedication to community welfare. We are proud to be a part of this life-saving initiative. Every year we conduct a similar drive and ‘give back’ to the society in our own way. I am thankful to Goa Medical College was partnering us in this initiative & in helping in making it a success”
Dr Merline Augustine, Goa Medical College, said “It is extremely heartening to see the STS students step up for a noble cause. As youth & students it is their responsibility to contribute to overall progress of the society and we are extremely impressed with the manner in which the STS students have contributed as part of the blood donation drive. We appreciate Vedanta Sesa Goa and STS for having organised the Blood Donation drive and for its success.”
STS students are, apart from being trained on industrial & technical skilling, mentored to be responsible citizen & to contribute to the well-being of the communities. They have previously also participated in the ‘Swachch Bharat’, ‘National Safety Month’, ‘Run For Zero Hunger’ and in environmental conservation related initiatives, thus making a positive impact through their efforts. STS , since its inception in 1994, has nurtured the professional future of over 2000 students & has a 100% placement record. Since 2023 it is also running courses for women aspirants & helping provide equal opportunities for all.
