Panaji: Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Thursday said that Speaker should be neutral and should not act like Hop-On Hop-Off service.
Whilst congratulating Ganesh Gaonkar for being elected as Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Alemao said that he has expectations from former to give justice to opposition and people of Goa by giving enough time to speak.
“Speaker post should not be like Hop-On Hop-Off service, which will also travel to political office and take part in political business. I am hopeful that Ganesh Gaonkar will respect the voice of opposition and will allow us to speak and discuss the pressing issues of the state,” Alemao said.
He said that as Ganesh Gaonkar has contribution in education, sports and other areas, it will help the youths of the state.
“There are thousands of Forest Right Claims cases pending that need to be cleared. I hope he will push this matter and help people,” Alemao said.
Alemao said that in the last three years the sittings of assembly session are being curtailed, this trend needs to be stopped and give adequate time to opposition.
