Panaji: Leader of the Opposition Yuri Alemao strongly criticised the government for attempting to fast-track the Coastal Zone Management Plan (CZMP) 2019 without adequate public consultation. He said granting only six days for citizens to submit objections to such a technical and far-reaching plan is unacceptable and legally untenable.

Alemao pointed out that the CZMP directly impacts livelihoods, the environment, property rights, and the future of Goa’s coastline, yet the public has not even been properly shown the relevant maps and documents. He stressed that this move violates the principles of natural justice, transparency, and participatory governance.

The LoP demanded that at least 60 days be provided for citizens to study the plan, maps, and reports, followed by proper public hearings and consultations. Warning the government against rushing the process, Alemao said any attempt to bulldoze the CZMP would be strongly opposed and could be challenged legally if necessary.
