Panaji: The Office of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Directorate of Social Welfare, the Disability Rights Association of Goa, and students from Dnyan Vardhini Divyang Training College, held an Autism Awareness Drive at various Kadamba bus stands to raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder on Wednesday. Guruprasad Pawaskar, State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities addressed the gathering at Panaji bus stand, emphasising the importance of general public awareness of Divyangjan rights and treating them with empathy and care. Students from Dnyan Vardhini Divyang Training College performed a street play at the bus stands to raise autism awareness among the general public.Deputy Director of Social Welfare Taha Haziq, DRAG President Avelino De Sa, DRAG memeber Liby Mendonsa and senior journalist Prakash Kamat were also present. A large crowd had gathered at the bus stands in Vasco, Margao, and Panjim. The Drive not only raised public awareness, but people with disabilities who were present at various venues reached out to the staff to discuss their grievances. As a result, the drive was a success in raising autism awareness among citizens.
