Panaji: MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira has strongly criticized the recent press conference held by the Goa Director General of Police (DGP) regarding the Cash-for-Jobs scam, calling it a blatant attempt to shield powerful individuals. He questioned the need for the DGP to provide a clean chit to ruling politicians, asking, “Who directed him to do so?” Ferreira said the press conference was an effort to protect high-ranking individuals, including what he termed the “Queen Bee” behind the scam.
Ferreira emphasized that such actions by the highest officer in the Goa Police undermine public confidence. “How can people trust the system when the DGP himself appears to be acting under pressure?” he said, demanding an independent inquiry by a One-Man Commission to ensure transparency. He pointed out that shielding influential politicians would only deepen the public’s mistrust.
He also referred to statements by other leaders, noting that Goa’s Agriculture Minister, Ravi Naik, had assured that the “Godfather and Godmother” behind the scam would soon be caught. Similarly, Ferreira highlighted Goa Cabinet Minister Babush Monserrate’s support for an independent inquiry, urging the government to prioritize justice over political interests.
Former Chief Minister Laxmikant Parsekar’s remarks were also echoed by Ferreira, who added, “Parsekar is right. Arresting agents is not enough. Political involvement is evident and cannot be ignored.” He said such acknowledgment from prominent leaders further proves the need for a transparent investigation.
Ferreira also criticized the Goa Police for failing to upload First Information Reports (FIRs) within 24 hours as directed by the Supreme Court. “The last uploaded FIR on the police website is dated November 13, despite press releases about newer FIRs. Why is the government failing in its duty to ensure transparency?” he said. He added that this delay reflects poorly on the government’s commitment to justice and accountability.
He warned that if the BJP-led government has “nothing to hide, nothing to fear,” it should accept the demand for an independent inquiry. Ferreira concluded, saying, “The youth of Goa cannot be continuously cheated. Genuine Goans are losing faith in the system and may leave the state in frustration, never to return. It’s time for the government to stop running away from the mirror and face the truth.”
