Goa, February 15, 2023: Surgeons of Manipal Hospitals, Goa, successfully removed a large sarcoma ― abdominopelvic palpable mass extending into the left inguinoscrotal space, weighing 3.2 kg and measuring 31 cm ― from a 75-year-old. The successful surgery gave a new lease of life to the patient.
The surgery was performed on an aged male patient who was diagnosed with a 31-cm tumor weighing 3.2 kg. The team of doctors who performed the surgery included Dr. Madhav Sanzgiri, Urologist, Dr. Rakesh Deshmane, CV Surgeon, Dr. Sredharan M, Oncosurgeon, Dr. Amey Pednekar, Plastic Surgeon, besides an Anaesthesia Care and post-operative epidural analgesia expert by Dr. Elaine Rodrigues and ICU team.
Speaking on the surgery, Dr. Madhav Sanzgiri, Urologist, Manipal Hospital, Goa, said, “Sarcoma management is a challenge which should ideally be met by a dedicated multidisciplinary team in order to achieve the best results for patients. Despite advanced age and multiple comorbid illnesses, this aged patient underwent a successful radical excision of the mass with ureteric reconstruction and primary closure of the wound. Now, the patient has recovered uneventfully and has been discharged from the hospital in a week’s time.”
