In a shocking incident, Siddiqui alias Suleman Khan, a 55-year-old accused in multiple land-grabbing cases, escaped from the custody of the Crime Branch SIT on December 13, 2024. Khan, who had been absconding for the past 4.5 years, was arrested on November 12, 2024, after extensive efforts led by SP Crime. He was wanted in three cases investigated by the SIT and had been declared a Proclaimed Offender in two North Goa cases.

Khan was in police custody at the Crime Branch lockup when, at around 2:30 am, IRBn Police Constable Amit Naik (PC 313515), who was on guard duty, unlocked the cell and fled with the accused on his Yamaha R15 motorcycle. An FIR is being registered at Old Goa Police Station regarding this serious breach of security.

The Goa Police, in coordination with neighboring state police forces, has launched an intensive operation to trace and apprehend the duo. Senior officials have assured that all-out efforts are underway to bring them to justice promptly.

A detailed report on the incident and disciplinary action against IRBn PC Amit Naik is being prepared. Allegations of preferential treatment given to Suleman Khan have been dismissed as baseless. However, senior officials have ordered a comprehensive inquiry into the management and administration of the Crime Branch lockup to address any procedural lapses.

The incident has raised serious concerns about internal security protocols, and a thorough investigation is expected to follow.
