Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant has assured that the coastal state is well-prepared to handle the upcoming monsoon season, with disaster management authorities on high alert and ready to act in case of emergencies.
Speaking to reporters after chairing a disaster management meeting ahead of the monsoon rains, Sawant highlighted several measures taken to ensure the safety and preparedness of the state.
“We have prepared a Goa heatwave action plan for prevention and mitigation of heat, providing timely advice to the public,” Sawant said. In anticipation of the monsoon season, an airport emergency response plan has also been developed, covering both airports in Goa.
The Chief Minister emphasized the establishment of an emergency response support system in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority. Special funds have been allocated to various municipalities and panchayats for pre-monsoon works: Rs 1 lakh for the Panaji corporation, Rs 50,000 per municipality, and Rs 25,000 per panchayat.
Additionally, separate funds have been provided to deputy collector-level officers to enhance preparedness. Eleven shelters have been commissioned across the state to accommodate people during emergencies.
An early warning dissemination system is active, and control rooms have been set up at district and taluka levels to coordinate response efforts. The Indian Navy, Railways, and coastal forces are also integrated into the disaster management plan, ensuring a comprehensive approach to tackling the monsoon season.
Dr. Sawant also urged citizens to download the “SACHET” app, which provides timely updates and information on disaster warnings, enhancing public safety and awareness during the monsoon.
