Panaji, July 31: As part of the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and its ongoing campaign against drug trafficking, the Goa Police organised an awareness-cum-interaction programme with courier and postal service providers from across the state at the GO Institute, Altinho, Panaji, on Thursday.
The meeting was chaired by Inspector General of Police (IGP) K.R. Chaurasia, IPS, and attended by DIGP, Anti Narcotic Cell Ved Prakash Surya, IPS, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices (India Post) Anurag Nikhare, SP, Anti Narcotic Cell Sunita Sawant, GPS, SP Harish Madkaikar, Nerlon Albuquerque, SP holding charge of DySP ANC, along with other senior police officers. Around 75 to 80 representatives from various courier and postal service providers across Goa participated in the programme.
Addressing the gathering, IGP K.R. Chaurasia highlighted the crucial role of courier and postal service providers in preventing the misuse of their networks by drug traffickers. He stressed the need for enhanced vigilance, strict compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) norms, thorough verification of consignors and consignees, and prompt reporting of suspicious consignments to law enforcement agencies.
The participants were educated on the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, emerging trends in drug trafficking through courier and postal channels, and the concealment methods commonly used by traffickers. Officials also explained key warning signs of suspicious parcels, including pseudonymous bookings, incomplete sender or receiver details, unusual packaging, and high-value consignments with inconsistent declarations.
During the session, officials also introduced participants to the MANAS National Narcotics Helpline (1933) and urged them to immediately report any information related to drug trafficking, suspicious consignments, or narcotics-related activities through the helpline or to the Anti Narcotic Cell or the nearest police station. The importance of public participation and timely intelligence sharing in tackling the drug menace was strongly emphasised.
An interactive session followed, during which representatives shared their observations and suggestions. The courier and postal service providers assured Goa Police of their full cooperation in preventing the misuse of their services for illegal drug transportation.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a collective commitment to strengthen coordination between law enforcement agencies and courier and postal service providers in achieving the vision of a Drug-Free Goa under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan and Nasha Mukt Goa initiatives.
