Panaji, May 27: The Goa Forward Party (GFP) on Monday demanded the postponement of school reopening from June 4 due to the simultaneous Lok Sabha election vote counting.
GFP General Secretary Durgadas Kamat, addressing the media, called for Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s intervention in this matter.
“We request deferring the reopening of schools from June 4 to June 5 or 6, as the Lok Sabha election vote counting is scheduled for the same day. The academic year should start smoothly, not in chaos, since many teachers will be involved in the counting process,” Kamat stated.
As Chief Minister Sawant also oversees the education portfolio, Kamat urged him to reconsider the reopening date.
The Lok Sabha election for Goa’s two seats occurred on May 7 during the third phase of polling. Goa Congress VP Sunil Kawthankar and AAP Goa President Amit Palekar have expressed support for GFP’s request.
