Panaji: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) on Thursday announced a major reshuffle in the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), appointing senior Congress leader Girish Chodankar as the new GPCC President with immediate effect.
The appointments were announced through an official press release issued by AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal from New Delhi.
Along with the appointment of the new president, the party also named M.K. Shaikh, Altone D’Costa and Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira as Working Presidents of the GPCC. Datta D. Naik has been appointed as the Treasurer.
The Congress leadership also acknowledged and appreciated the contributions of outgoing GPCC President Amit Patkar for his services to the party.
In addition to the organisational appointments, the Congress high command approved the formation of key committees for Goa ahead of the upcoming political activities and elections.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Campaign Committee, while South Goa MP Captain Viriato Fernandes has been named Chairperson of the Manifesto Committee.
Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister Francisco Sardinha has been appointed Chairperson of the Co-ordination Committee, with Sunil Kawthankar serving as Co-Chairperson.
The appointments come as the Congress party looks to strengthen its organisational structure in Goa and prepare for future political challenges in the state.
