Porvorim, 30th September 2024 – In a positive move for Goa’s tourism sector, Michael Lobo, MLA of Calangute Constituency, along with the members of the shack association expressed their appreciation for the efforts of the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, for the early allotment of shacks this season. The shacks, a hallmark of Goa’s coastal tourism, have been allotted ahead of schedule, ensuring that they are operational well before the peak tourist season. This marks a significant shift in how the state prepares for the influx of tourists, particularly those arriving early in the season.
Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Shri Rohan A. Khaunte, emphasized the importance of this timely initiative, saying, “Tourism is the backbone and main industry of Goa, and all our Goans are the ambassadors for tourism. Along with the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Dr. Pramod Sawant, we ensured that the shack allotment started on time. We have kept the rates the same as last year in the new shack policy to ensure stakeholder comfort, and it’s a good sign that we started ahead of schedule. While addressing their own challenges, the shack owners have always focused on promoting Goa. Michael Lobo has always been supportive and makes sound decisions, and I wish him and all the shack owners the best for the season. This year, it’s the shacks waiting for the tourists, instead of the tourists waiting for the shacks. I wish them success and hope they continue promoting Goa with the same passion.”
Shri. Michael Lobo, MLA of Calangute Constituency while appreciating the early allotment, highlighted the importance of having the shacks ready well before the season kicks off in full swing. “This year, the demand from all coastal MLAs and shack owners was that the shacks be allotted by September and operational by October, so that foreign tourists can enjoy the deck beds on the white sands as soon as they arrive. The promise made by Minister Khaunte during the assembly has now been fulfilled. He personally coordinated with all departments to make this happen, and for the first time in history, we got a single-window clearance. I thank and appreciate Minister Khaunte’s vision that tourists should be seated in the shacks when the season begins, not waiting for them in December.”
This unprecedented step has set a new standard in ensuring that Goa’s tourism infrastructure is ready to welcome both domestic and international tourists earlier than usual. With the shacks in place ahead of time, the coastal belt is ready for an influx of visitors, promising them the unique Goan experience right from the start of the season.
The early shack allotment underscores the Goa government’s commitment to supporting its tourism stakeholders and enhancing the state’s image as a premier tourist destination.
