Margao – On 8th May 2025, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Goa, Dr. Pramod Sawant, announced that ESI Hospital, Margao had been selected by the Union Government for setting up a Government Medical College. While the announcement was welcomed, Madganvcho Awaaz immediately reminded the government that this was a long-pending commitment dating back to 2009. “The people of Margao have waited far too long for this promise to be fulfilled,” said Madganvcho Awaaz and Youth Leader Prabhav Naik.
Naik was reacting to the visit of Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye to ESI Hospital today, where he reviewed the current facilities. “It is encouraging that Dr. Shetye took stock of the situation and acknowledged the poor state of the hospital, which is currently functioning at barely 25% of its capacity,” Naik stated.
“Immediately after the CM’s announcement, we raised the issue publicly and made it clear that ESI Hospital must not remain a symbolic or underutilized institution. We emphasized the urgent need to make the hospital fully functional with proper infrastructure, qualified staff, and essential services that can benefit the citizens”, said Naik.
“We are proud to say that our voice has once again been heard. In the weeks that followed our appeal, the government has initiated steps to operationalize the hospital. This is a welcome and much-needed development,” he added.
Prabhav Naik further expressed gratitude to Labour Minister Atanasio Monserrate and Bicholim MLA Dr. Chandrakant Shetye for their proactive involvement. “Their leadership stands in stark contrast to the silence of Margao’s defector MLA, Digambar Kamat, who continues to remain indifferent to the real needs of the people,” Naik said. He concluded by reaffirming that Madganvcho Awaaz will continue to raise public issues, demand accountability, and be the voice of Margao. “The credit for this step forward goes to every citizen who believes in people-powered change.”
