PANAJI: Cumbarjua MLA Rajesh Faldessai on Thursday pitched for the construction of bridges to connect the island villages of his constituency and improve the water supply and road situation in his constituency.
Speaking during the demands for grants on the public works department, the MLA said that several villages in his constituency including Cumbarjua remained without connectivity despite having a bridge which was a cause of concern for the residents of the village.
“Even if you build a small military bridge it will serve the villages which currently have to rely on unreliable ferries to serve the village,” Faldessai said, raising the issue also of the villages of Vanxim, and St. Estevam, which he said was in dire need.
The MLA also thanked the PWD department for sanctioning new water tanks especially in the island villages of Divar but demanded that a water tank for the Kadamba plateau that has been sanctioned be built quickly to alleviate the sufferings of the people. He said that the tank that was built for the people of Corlim has been beneficial to more than 500 families.
The MLA, however, lamented that while the main road between the Old Goa to Banastarim was in good condition, the interior roads of the villages — all the villages of his constituency were in bad shape and in urgent need of repair.
“Be it Cumbarjua, or Corlim or other villages, the roads are in urgent need of repair. In many cases the files have been cleared but I am hopeful that no sooner the rains cease we will be able to start the work on repairing the roads,” he said adding that as many as 13 roads in his constituency were in urgent need of repair.
