Goa Pradesh Congress has strongly condemned an incident of alleged organised mob violence, attempted arson and assault on women reported on the night of December 22, 2025, at Donwaddo, Salvador do Mundo, Porvorim.
According to a complaint lodged at the Porvorim Police Station, a large group of individuals, allegedly armed with swords, iron rods and other weapons, gathered outside a residential house and created terror by bursting high-intensity fireworks. Burning crackers were reportedly hurled at the compound gate in an apparent attempt to set the house on fire. The complaint further alleges that women members of the family were molested and issued death threats during the incident.
The Congress has stated that the accused allegedly invoked the name of Porvorim MLA and Cabinet Minister Shri Rohan Khaunte while threatening the family. The attack is claimed to be aimed at silencing Shri Sanjeev Naik, former Sarpanch and President of the Bandhari Samaj, for his outspoken views against the criminalisation of politics, his role in the Goa Against Goonda Raj movement, and his demand for justice in the Rama Kankonkar assault case.
Terming the incident as deliberate and politically motivated, the Congress said the attack was intended to intimidate a family, terrorise women and suppress dissenting voices. The alleged attempt to burn down a residence and the assault on women, the party stated, reflect a serious breakdown of law and order under the BJP-led government in Goa.
The Congress alleged that such incidents point to growing “goondaism” in Porvorim, where armed mobs allegedly operate openly while invoking the names of ruling party leaders, indicating political patronage and a collapse of governance.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has demanded immediate registration of an FIR under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, arrest of all accused persons without political protection, and a fair, impartial and time-bound investigation. The party has also called for examination of CCTV footage, call records and witness statements, along with strict action against all those who instigated, abetted or shielded the accused, irrespective of political position.
Stating that Goa will not tolerate mob rule, political intimidation or crimes against women, the Congress reaffirmed its support to the victims and its commitment to ensuring justice.
