Panaji: Goan Youths were promised by the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on 8th November 2022 that all Government Recruitments shall be done through Staff Selection Commission from January 2023. Today we are in February 2023. There was no mention about the Recruitment Process in today’s Cabinet Meeting. This exposes that the Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant is not in a position to keep up with his own commitment, stated Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao.

Why BJP Government is reluctant to issue the Notification to bring all the Government Recruitments under Staff Selection Commission? questioned Yuri Alemao. It is loud and clear that the Government wants to continue with the corrupt practices and sell the jobs, he said.

NITI Ayog headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has exposed in its report that the Unemployment rate in Goa is highest in the Country. The Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) in its latest Report has stated that the Unemployment Rate in January 2023 is 16 percent which is double of the National Average. Government appears clueless on generating employment opportunities and providing jobs to the Youths, stated Yuri Alemao.

The information provided to me in the reply to my Legislative Assembly Question states that 21780 youths registered for the much hyped Mega Job Fair held on 8th and 9th November 2022. Ironically only 576 Youths were provided with the Job Opportunities in Private Sector. Surprisingly the reply mentions that Government has not maintained any data pertaining to age, qualification, salary paid, date of joining, current status and whether the person recruited continues in the service or removed by the employer, pointed Yuri Alemao.

In the information provided to another LAQ, Government has stated that out of 116379 unemployed Youths registered with Employment Exchange only 115 were provided Jobs on permanent basis and 1749 were recruited on contract basis in various Government Departments. The information also reveals the Model Career Centre under Regional Employment Exchange only creates awareness and orientation and does not give any assurance of employment to the Youths.

It is high time that the Government puts its priorities in place and comes out with an Action Plan to address the Unemployment issue in the State. I urge the Chief Minister to read the Congress Election Manifesto and implement the same which will help in resolving the Unemployment in the State, claimed Yuri Alemao.
