A devastating accident occurred at the Verna Industrial Estate in South Goa on Saturday night, resulting in the loss of four precious lives and leaving five others critically injured. A private bus, carrying staff of a private company, veered off course and crashed into two roadside shanties where labourers were sleeping, causing the tragic incident.
According to eyewitnesses and police reports, the bus driver, who was allegedly under the influence of alcohol, lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the shanties at around 11:30 pm. Four labourers died on the spot, while five others sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Goa Medical College and Hospital.
One of the labourers, Rupender Kumar Mathur, who lost his uncle and brother in the accident, claimed that the bus driver threatened to harm them if they reported the incident to anyone. Mathur also expressed concern over the delayed medical response, which he believed could have made a difference in saving more lives.
