Panaji, Aug 3: The only zoo in Goa, located at Bondla, is all set to undergo a major transformation as the state government prepares a Rs. 100 crore master plan for its renovation. Forest Minister Vishwajit Rane announced the phased refurbishment, which has already received approval from the Central Zoo Authority (CZA).
The condition of Bondla Zoo, located in North Goa’s Valpoi assembly constituency, has been a matter of concern, with AAP MLA Cruz Silva raising the issue in the legislative assembly. The once-glorious zoo has faced a decline in recent times.
Addressing the situation, Minister Rane acknowledged the zoo’s current deplorable state, but expressed optimism about its future. Annually, approximately 80,000 visitors explore the zoo.
The approved master plan outlines a comprehensive approach to the zoo’s renovation, and the implementation will be carried out in phases due to the substantial cost. The state government has decided to welcome investments from private individuals and companies for this ambitious project, creating a dedicated fund for the purpose.
Rane encouraged animal lovers, environmentalists, and businesses to contribute to the fund, which will play a crucial role in uplifting the zoo and restoring it to its former glory. The collective effort aims to revitalize Bondla Zoo, making it a vibrant and cherished destination once again.
