Panaji: In a scathing attack, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao on Monday said that united Goemkars have foiled the ‘blueprint’ of RSS and BJP for communal tensions in Goa.
“We have maintained our brotherhood and will not allow anyone to create a Manipur like situation here. I am thankful to all harmonious Goemkar, be it Hindus, Muslims or Christians, for handling this situation peacefully and showing unity against the deliberate attempts of RSS and BJP to create communal tensions,” Alemao said.
“I again appeal to our Goemkars to maintain peace in the state and be united, so no one can break our unity,” he added.
“By now, everyone has come to know that BJP was trying to divert the burning issues of massive corruption, land dealings, land conversion, Mhadei and selling our Goem by keeping people in dark,” Alemao said.
“BJP is aware that it has lost ground due to all these factors and hence resorting to intimidation tactics and communal incitement. It is using its crutches like RSS and other Right Wing outfits to divide people on the lines of religion. But they have failed and in future too they will fail,” he said.
“Why I say BJP is heartless, is because it forced people to die in Manipur. Prime Minister Narendra Modi failed to visit Manipur, but during the same period he travelled to other places,” he pointed out.
“The Manipur issue was very serious. I had warned this government that anti-minorities, communal groups will try to create a Manipur like situation in Goa. But despite that, Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar didn’t allow the opposition to speak on this issue. They knew that if discussed they would have got exposed,” Alemao said.
“Today, the attention of the world is towards Goa, as remarks of Subhash Velingkar were painful and were deliberately made to spread communal discord. This is done when there is a decennial exposition of sacred relics of St. Francis Xavier,” he pointed out.
“Police should cite an example by arresting Velingkar that they will not fall prey to pressure of this corrupt BJP government and nobody in future makes derogatory remarks against any religion,” he demanded.
