Panaji: Alleging that the BJP government has failed to give a safe environment to women, INDIA bloc leaders have said that BJP is welcoming criminals in their party and hence justice can’t be expected from such politicians.
INDIA bloc Goa spokesperson Manisha Usgaonkar (INC), Adv Ashma Bi (GFP) and Cecille Rodrigues (AAP), addressed a joint press conference at Congress House and said that the government has totally failed to protect women.
Cecille Rodrigues said that India stands at 128 rank among 177 countries in safety.
“How safe is our country? We are termed as an unsafe nation. In Goa also we are not safe. Government has failed to give a safe environment to the women and child,” Rodrigues said.
She said that, Home Department failed to properly investigate Siddhi Naik murder case.
“We have seen how a girl was killed in Mapusa and her dead body was transported to a neighboring state to destroy evidence. Recently fiver year gill was raped and murders, even one 82 year old woman was killed. Crimes are increasing in the state,” Rodrigues said.
“What can be expected from BJP who is welcoming criminals in their party. In Goa too we have minister with rape charges,” she pointed out.
Ashma Bi said that the crimes against women have increased in the last five years. “From 2019 to 2023, around 250 rapes have taken place on victims below 18 years of age and only 4 accused persons are convicted. It is a shame on the government that conviction is so low. Who is responsible for it?,” she questioned.
“Is Goa the safest place? No, it is unsafe for women. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao has been reduced to just slogans and not a reality. Are these slogans to hoodwink women? Why do they speak about women empowerment,” she questioned.
Ashma said that law and order has completely failed in Goa.
Manisha Usgaonkar said that cybercrimes are taking place, but the government is doing nothing to arrest it.
“Police are under political pressure. They should be given free hand to deal with cases. BJP speaks about women’s reservation during election time. But in reality, fails to give justice to women,” she said.
