Panaji: Aldona Congress MLA Adv. Carlos Alvares Ferreira has reiterated his demand for an independent investigation into the alleged cash-for-jobs scam in Goa, cautioning officials against suppressing emerging complaints.
Speaking on Friday, Ferreira urged Chief Minister Pramod Sawant to constitute a one-man commission under the Commission of Inquiries Act, asserting that such a step would demonstrate the government’s transparency.
“If the government has nothing to hide, it should appoint a commission. I also urge those who paid money to step forward and name the individuals who made these false job promises,” Ferreira stated.
He expressed skepticism over the effectiveness of the ongoing police investigation, alleging that some officers were discouraging complainants from filing FIRs and attempting to resolve cases informally at police stations.
“If any such case, with supporting documents, comes into my hands, I will ensure the involved officers are held accountable,” Ferreira warned.
The MLA praised Revenue Minister Atanasio Monserrate for supporting the demand for an independent probe and called on the Chief Minister to deliver on his promises. Ferreira also pointed to Agriculture Minister Ravi Naik’s statement that the “godfather and godmother” involved in the scam would be caught, urging the government to act decisively.
The cash-for-jobs scandal has stirred political controversy in the state, with demands for transparency and accountability growing louder.
